@manton Is this just for micro.blog hosted blogs?

@manton nice! Can't wait to try it out.

@ronguest The cross-posting works with any blog, but the ActivityPub support is only for blogs on Micro.blog. It would be really complicated for users to support external blogs.

@manton Nice features! These are well thought out. My Wordpress blog syndicates to Mastodon via a plugin, but I turned on crossposting for my Micro.blog and it went smooth as butter.

I have to think about the identity option some more. It's a great feature I just need to think of all the implications first. Thanks for adding these.

@bradenslen Thanks! It's good to take some time to think through identity on the web. I want my domain name to last for decades and evolve with new services, so that's where our focus is for Micro.blog and the IndieWeb.

@manton Thanks. I’m not sophisticated enough to figure that out on my own 😜. I imagine this is a good addition to MB. I’m not sure I’ll ever go with Mastodon but it’s nice to have cross-posting as an option.

@manton Sounds great. I’ve been thinking about looking at Mastodon.

I ran into an issue. I clicked on ActivityPub from my hosted account but it says I can’t use it until SSL is set up. How is SSL set up on my hosted blog?

Also, one more question. On your post it says:

In Micro.blog on the web, click Account → ActivityPub. You will be prompted to select a username.

Does that mean that I can get a Mastodon username from the ActivityPub page or do I have to go to Mastodon to set up an account?

Anyways, thanks for the new features. 👏👏👏

@uncrtn You'll get a username. No need for a separate Mastodon account. I'll enable SSL for your site now and it should be active when you reload that page shortly.

@manton Great job! This is incredible work and really sets Micro.blog apart as a place with a specific community feel but with the ability to really connect with the whole web.

@manton Thank you thank you thank you!

I’ve been banned from the bird-site because I was target reported. This allows me to keep my social presence in sync!

@manton this is great! I’ve been annoyed by my increasingly fragmented web presence, and trying to figure out how to use my own domains to handle this now I don’t have to start running my own Mastodon instance!

@manton First great addition. I mistaken hit the activity pub twice (the SSL message confused me a little) so obviously ignore the second one

@manton One quick thought, and I'm not even sure how this would get implemented, but it would be nice to be able to set the "privacy level" of ActivityPub posts. I don't mean for there to be private posts per se (I know public posting on micro.blog is by design) but on Mastodon you can set different levels of just how public you want stuff to be and I think it'd be nice to be able to set that for my posts going over that direction. So for example I always prefered to have my posts be "unlisted." It's not private per se, but they aren't going to show up in global timelines, but they're still there for anyone to see if they want (and if they follow me).

In my mind it's sort of like using a robots.txt file to tell search engines how you want your stuff to be indexed.

Of course I know almost nothing about how ActivityPub works so I'm not sure how you send those flags, and how they get respected (or not) on the other end but it would be nice to be able to set how I want my posts to be sent via ActivityPub. I'm not really suggesting a set of options for each post individually, though I wouldnt' be opposed to that either, but just a default option would be great.

@DrOct Good feedback, thank you. I like the idea and the comparison to robots.txt makes sense to me too.

@manton Ah! Would be good to mention on micro.blog/account/m... that a paid hosted micro.blog account is required. It just says "No custom domains set" which made think I'm crazy as I do use micro.blog with a custom domain – but also with my own website, not hosted on micro.blog
