Periodically I think of users who used to post here frequently and then just disappeared and wonder what happened and if they’re ok. Some folks will make a short post when they step away which is nice. I wonder if I’m the only person who thinks of the rest?

@ronguest There’s been a few who’ve I’ve noticed have dropped off. I know I’ve gone through periods of inactivity myself, usually when I get distracted by other things.

@ronguest I go back and forth, usually depending on my workload and other projects. I really enjoy Micro.blog, but it takes a backseat to the other priorities of life. I've thought of posting a "hiatus" message during those times, but they usually just happen (unplanned).

@ronguest You are not alone in thinking that.

@ronguest Some of us, like @sku\_b and @annie, get distracted with life. And in my case, I haven't "abandoned" the platform so much as forgotten about it half the time. It's nothing personal.

@garciabuxton I remember you had posted about changing things up so I miss you but it wasn’t like you suddenly disappeared. There are few though who just went ‘poof’.

@ronguest I can see that. I noticed that phenomenon a while ago, when I was more involved here. Hard to say why, though I've noticed a few "this was swell, but I'm bored here" kind of farewell posts occasionally. It takes a bit of work, and maybe more time than anticipated, to build a solid tribe here.

In my case, it's been a combination of life happening and, truth be told, my interests shifting and taking me elsewhere. (For instance, I'm more steeped in my Catholic faith these days, and whatever faith-based discussion exists here is outside that realm; I've found a tribe in the nondoctrinaire pockets of Catholic Twitter, so I spend what little social media time I have over there.)

I try to check here once a day, though. And I admit I was a little taken aback by the "abandoned the community" language elsewhere in this conversation, but I can understand the sentiment.

@Annie I ebb and flow a bit and it is natural. I was just expressing an emotional response to those who silently dropped off and have stayed off for months. I still feel connected to them.

@ronguest I think of various people periodically, too (and I suspect at least one of them we have in common).

@ronguest I’m another ebb-and-flower...but then again I’m that way with my blog too and other forms of social media. 🤔
