I have yet to integrate Micro.blog & IndieWeb technology into my blog the way I want. It’s more important to keep my design rather than to use one of the bland, utilitarian IndieWeb-ready themes everyone uses, so I’ll keep making small tweaks over time.

@smokey Even Manton has spoken about the need for third-party theme development. And that's just for Micro.blog (although I'm sure progress on that front could be shared for non-Micro.blog hosting).

@simonwoods For sure. Right now I can easily spot almost any Micro.blog-hosted blog I happen upon in the wild (the exception”proving” said “rule” being @kaa’s site), just as I can most IndieWeb folks’ WordPress sites—which basically use the same two themes! At least Micro.blog offers a half-dozen or so now.

Hopefully this winter I can find more time to devote to bringing the theme I use up to speed and releasing my changes 🤞

@smokey @simonwoods as you can imagine I do have some thoughts about this. It’s very difficult and time consuming for people to sort out the design of their sites, especially because it can sometimes lead to design procrastination which is the opposite of what you want when the act of writing and publishing should be the focus. It’s like buying a car and then spending ages polishing the wheels and never driving it. The issue is that if those wheels are not just right you are likely not to bother driving it :).

@kaa I don’t know how I have managed to avoid falling into that trap. I somehow lucked into finding a theme I liked in the first dozen or so I looked at, back in the WP 1.5 era. Unfortunately, it’s never been updated, so I have added a few things over the years, but when it comes to choosing between writing or futzing with the blog, I almost always default to writing 🤷‍♂️ More evidence I’m not normal 😂
