@bradenslen I haven't watched the video but of course agree with your general take on the subject. Realistically, the only thing that has a chance to oppose Google in the future is the same thing that put Google into such a dominant position; people and their websites. It might take longer than we wish but eventually there would be an alternative to the Silo Web, the rest of the Open Web wherein people remember to care about things that happen to be important.

Creating actual competition for Google -- beyond merely setting up an alternative search engine or ad network -- might even have a positive effect on the behaviour of those at Google; either way we'll have something we care about and for which we can proud.

@simonwoods Right at the beginning of the video the point was made that Google behaved better back when they had real competition. You really should watch it, since I don't use Google there were many things I was totally oblivious to.

Of all the potential things that could happen to Google, one that I always considered a longshot might be what breaks them: overreach or greivous misstep.

@bradenslen It is right at the top of my to-watch list. I am curious to see how the younger generations of today develop their relationships with the big tech companies, especially Google.
