Finished reading: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles 📚 a very enjoyable read. The writing style was fantastic and a very character driven book. I have a writing theory about one character but it would be too spoiler-ish to share in public.

@ChrisJWilson Loved that book (even bought it for my mom). I'm bummed that I can't watch the show on streaming.

@canneddragons i had heard it recommended so much and picked up a copy via the kindle deals of the day. Very glad I did! I thought we could get the show here in Poland so my wife could watch it. It seems it’s on some minor streaming service I’m not really interested in signing up for. I did browse the episode summaries and from the looks of it, I’m surprised they don’t have more between the final three. (Trying not to post any spoilers if someone reads this thread)

@ChrisJWilson @canneddragons The show, while not awful, might disappoint you if you’ve read the book. The book is so well written (one of my all-time favorites) that capturing the spirit onscreen was always going to be a difficult task. I didn’t think they succeeded.

@gdp That's a bummer to hear, but I guess it saves me from having to subscribe to a service solely for the purpose of watching it.

@gdp @canneddragons I knew it could never adequately show the writing. Honestly it has some of the best prose I’ve read in years and I really think it matches the character. Have you read any of his other books?

@ChrisJWilson One of my favorites! Reading this one led me to read all the rest of Towles' books. Definitely consider his first -- The Rules of Civility. It's been a few years since I've read it, but I still think of the characters and NYC setting.

@robertbreen Have you read the Lincoln highway? I saw Bill Gates and Obama had both recommended it. I'm keeping my eye open for the The Rules of Civility

@ChrisJWilson Yes, I really enjoyed Lincoln Highway. Even more memorable characters. And Table for Two, which is his new collection of short stories and a follow up novella to Rules of Civility is also terrific. You're in for some reading treats!
