5Gb external drive seems to have failed over night. Worst case scenario - I have a bunch of home movies and photos that now exist in only one place, and will have permanently lost a WHOLE LOT of torrented, oh let's say, um... Linux ISOs. Yeah, that's it.

@richText Oh, no! Is there no way to salvage the drive? I bet there are companies that does this, but I don’t know at what cost.

@odd I have a couple of ideas to try, later today. As long as I make another copy (or 2, or 4...) of the home movies from their other currently-safe location, I won't lose anything worth paying a rescue fee for. Just a lot of inconvenience...

@richText Ok, that’s good! I understood it like there was no second copy. Yes, downloading Linux ISOs takes a while…

@richText After failing to fix this drive in MacOS, Windows or SpinRite, I plugged it back into its "home" Mac & gave up. An hour later it was mounted normally.

Presumption: It just needed fscking or whatever, & I just needed to give the OS time.

Lesson (again): Don't Panic.

@richText 😃👍✅✨ It’s easier said than done to be calm when such happens though. Glad it turned out well. Maybe it was just a reminder to get more copies…

@odd For sure! I'm already looking at services I pay for & don't use... prime example: a TB of OneDrive I've never bothered with ("free" w/ MS Office apps). "I can put this, there, and this, over there...."

I'd better get some graph paper & make a map... 🤓
