I wonder how many Mac users, in 2022, know they are using a Unix-based OS – with all of the benefits of that – while at the same time benefiting from a best-in-class designed user interface and security features that also runs all of the major software available in the world?

@cdevroe FWIW, both Windows and Linux have their roots in Unix. However, Windows isn’t known for its security (a process, not a state), because it was never a priority for its vendor.

@renevanbelzen I didn't think Windows had any Unix underpinnings (unless you're talking about WSL?)?

@cdevroe It has a Linux subsystem since Windows 10. Furthermore, the multi-user system is clearly based on ideas from Unix, though not code-wise (most likely).

@renevanbelzen Yes, of course. WSL is awesome for Windows developers. I've written extensively about it on my blog. But, the OS is not based on Unix. I suppose, yes, the multi-user feature was likely inspired by Unix.
