Outbatted, outbowled, outplayed. New Zealand beat England by an innings and 65 runs in the first Test at Mount Maunganui. An exhibition of how to comprehensively win a 5 day game of cricket. 🏏

@TheDimPause The stand for NZ’s 6th and 7th wicket basically sealed the match.

@pratik Yes, England really didn’t have an answer to that. Their bowlers couldn’t make a breakthrough and batters couldn’t match that performance (with the possible excuse that the pitch was deteriorating slightly towards the end).

@TheDimPause I have started trying to learn cricket and watched some of those matches—it was entertaining even though I probably understand less than 1% of what is happening. I also like the use of the infrared camera for replays. @pratik

@joeltimmins the more you watch the more you will understand. And enjoy. It's truly a beautiful game. That's how I learnt baseball and American football.

@pratik Yes, I occasionally remind myself that at some point I had to learn the rules of baseball, American football, etc..

@joeltimmins Excellent! As @pratik says, the more you watch the easier it gets - and having a good commentary along with what you're watching can also help. The technology now used in the international matches has advanced hugely - IR hotspots, video reviews with multiple cameras, ball tracking, the 'Snickometer'. I think that all this scrutiny can point out what the umpires are looking for and assist in explaining the rules too.

@TheDimPause Yes, listening to the official go through the IR and other camera angles helped me figure out what he was considering, and then the commentators explained a little more.
