@matpacker A fantastic first effort. I've to yet get my first shot at it.

@pratik @matpacker I've yet to see it for the first time. Really must get out in the countryside near me, after the streetlights have been turned off. Trouble is, there's still residual light from coastal towns, plus the 1am trip out. One day…

@vanessa @matpacker The best places are the ones certified as 'dark skies'. We have on in Texas but it's still a 8-hour-drive through the Texas desert. It's on our list.

Also, there is apparently a season to see the Milky Way.

@pratik Yikes, 8 hours! We have some in the UK, but they are north of me. Mind you, there’s a push to have a site pretty nearby, so I hope that comes off one day.

@pratik @vanessa my photo was taken about 2 hours west of where I live, on my in-laws property, which is about 15 minutes out of a little country town, so it's quite dark most nights. I reckon if I had of gotten out of bed at 2am for another photo, then it would've been even brighter again.

A mate of mine and I are planning a camping trip on the in-laws other property, which is even further out of town and is super super dark at night. Hopefully we get lucky and there's no cloud cover, that's the other variable to take into account.

@matpacker Fabulous! The trees (and even the darn power poles/wires!) look great silhouetted against the sky.
