@chrisaldrich This is something we’ve been meaning to change for years, because replies were never intended to be very long. I want to make it easier to link to the web for the full version.
@manton Based on my esperience I'm sure it's relatively rare. Don't change anything because of my insanity. 😜
@chrisaldrich I was thinking of suggesting it maybe would be better to link to the content, (given that the one being replied to will get the mention when the handle is not in the post itself).
@odd @manton In my (recent) case, I was being lazy because I knew that I'd get the mention and content back to my original, and I didn't need to take the extra step to wrap the @username with a URL to make sure the notification got sent. The threading UI was also easier by leaning in on micro.blog's affordances than my site's. Perhaps the solution is to have a "Read more" button with "shade" that extends the post UI for those who want it? Monocle does this well. This could also help to center the importance of longer articles which now just show up with title and a link, but which could be easier to read in place within m.b.
@chrisaldrich Without having thought about any further implications, a read more button sounds like a good solution. @manton
@odd @chrisaldrich I've actually been trying to avoid "read more" because I think it will make the timeline less readable. I think we can come up with something else that fits Micro.blog. This kind of change can be a little disruptive so I've been waiting too long, probably.
@manton @odd @chrisaldrich FWIW, we are more likely to see 3+ photos within a post on the timeline than a longer text reply. The former takes up more space too.
