My wife has a connective tissue disorder which makes it painful for her to hold a book open while reading, so for several years, any book which we both might read has been an ebook. At this point, I have a few annual anthologies which I buy in paperback form (mostly because I found it awkward in the ebook version if I wanted to flip to the back of the book to read the notes on each contributor and because my wife tends not to enjoy short stories, preferring novels). The rest of my books are on Kindle. I am far from taking the high road myself. I just wish I could more easily switch to another source of ebooks. But that’s an area where Amazon seems to prioritize its profits over its customers’ convenience; that’s their prerogative, but that doesn’t mean that I have to like it!

In both cases, there are people who don’t fit those roles, but it’s a good shorthand. So my Facebook posts tend to be much fewer and more personal. Twitter is my default place to post. Micro.blog started for me as mostly “where I write blog posts I want to tweet.” It does that very well, but… as I find people to follow here, Micro.blog wants to become something more to me (but I don’t completely know what that is, or whether I have enough to write about to make it more).

@artkavanagh I made a mistake of grabbing the profession I was in when I started my Gmail account. To this day, I get any number of messages from church secretaries, requests to play for funerals or weddings, inquiries from soloists and students… and in any number of languages. And to top it all off, it’s now been three or four years since I last did that type of work regularly!
