As a Challenger kid, I held my breath for a full minute as Artemis II launched. Ten minutes later, I’m overjoyed to see it all go as planned.

@andycarolan Twitter is where I kept track of all my favorite SF authors, SF magazines and cons. I left after Musktrat bought it. I still haven’t warmed up to Bluesky or Mastodon. IG is where I got my art fix, but that’s changed SO MUCH that its so unappealing.

I say FORCED on us, because yes… this was forced on us, and marketed to us as a world-changing tech innovation. We can’t hold back the tide. Graphic design was once done using paper, glue and ink, and now it’s all on computer. We adapt or die.

Thinking about AI after coming across that Kotaku article… I’m still not over the fact that the AI we hoped for is not the AI we ended up with (and in some cases, forced on us.)

I’ve written fiction where AI is a positive presence, even after the real-life rise of it.

It’s just disappointing.

When I started doing graphic design in the mid-90s, I was attached to big Apple towers for computers (some of them made of BRUSHED STEEL!) and big, bulky monitors. Today, I can work literally from anywhere, set up shop in a minute on a computer the thickness of a book. The FUTURE!
