@hollie The idea of draining the body of water in the winter that you sail on in the summer is something that I have never thought of as an option. Sort of Iike when we drove over the Rockies and I saw a 34’ sailboat on a body of water that was higher than anything in my whole state. I had to pause and ponder that one. This east coast boy does get out enough. Enjoy the season aboard when you can!

@mbkriegh Thanks for sharing this piece. I have been thinking through the capitalist problems but had not yet come to the connection with the violence that it relies on. I will have to find the Golden and Wall Kimmerer books for further reading. Your connection of these books to the current news cycle was the clincher for me. Presently I’m work my way through Jack Weatherford’s Indian Givers and Native Roots as he succinctly lays out the many ways Native cultures have enriched the European existence and in turn how far down that capatilist path we have ventured. As you state we find ourselves needing to get back to a place where violence in general is rare rather than the norm and can this be down under our current capitalist doctrine.
