I won a new term (yay!) but only because there weren't more candidates then open slots - https://www.w3.org/news/2026/w3c-advisory-committee-elects-advisory-board/ - which isn't ideal. We were hoping to bring in more candidates.

Read the book of Project Hail Mary over my trip and now due to go watch the film on Sunday. Really enjoyed the book. I couldn't help but compare it to 3 Body Problem, which hits some similar beats. Project Hail Mary's scientists-solving-a-problem-together world view is so uplifting, but ultimately a bit idealistic. 3BP, by comparison, presents a pretty bleak view of the universe, but felt more realistic to me when it comes to human nature.

On this trip, besides the considerable flights, and one excursion bus in Hangzhou, I've traveled exclusively by electric public transport, and electric taxis, also in Hangzhou. I was particularly impressed with all the electric vehicles in China, including cars, busses, and these amazingly quiet electric scooters! 🛵 (We could use some of those in London.) The vast majority of vehicles in China were electric.

@alisonw it was still thrilling. I also saw the B1M episode and generally I'm a fan. But the thing that impressed me the most was how quickly it sped up to 300 km/hr and how it maintained that speed for pretty much the whole trip. Anyway, I can tick that box off my list: I have been levitated.
