@thomholwerda The rest of mini PC world could take one idea from it though: let small computed have built-in power supplies. I’m always disappointed when I discover that all these cool small mini PCs have power bricks that sometimes rival the computer itself.

@numericcitizen I’m kinda tired of a lot of the social with Mb being kinda janky. I kinda yearn for the first class Mastodon experience again.

To me Mb seems to be spreading itself a bit thin and not focusing on the stuff I care about.

It’s also overkill: I don’t need a blog engine combined with a fediverse presence. They so that pretty well though.

@boby_biq Nationalism and nation building always seems to tends towards bigotry (Norway’s first constitution denied entry for Jewish people and we tried to extinguish our indigenous population). Horrible horrible stuff.

@mattwilcox The thing with legacy software is that many people rely on it for many legacy features, typically of which would all be lost in the event of a rewrite. Just look at Final Cut Pro X.

@boby_biq Also: part of why I say ”Always have the latest updates” is because it’s a much more simple message than ”Use the last update, unless it’s a recently major revision in case update to the latest security update which by the way is slightly tricky to do”.

Here’s how I see it: Ubuntu makes the surface simple, but to do that the innards get more complex. Arch exposes way more of the innards directly, but the innerds are simpler.

But it’s tricky, Apple pushes the major versions pretty hard. The minor security updates is often below the major one.

I’m am more lax about major versions on iOS tho (iOS 18 has been great for me, I finally have Norwegian- English bilingual keyboard!).

I‘m always careful about upgrading macOS. This year I‘m extra weary of it though. Apple is pushing ”Ai”/LLM stuff hard like the rest of big tech and I have zero interest in it.

Really looking forward to the remake of Little Big Adventure - Twinsen’s Quest (which is a remake of LBA1 from the 90s). It was a such a quirky and charming little game!

Learning about Digital Gardens is throwing a wrench in the re-design of my website. It think it might be a good wrench. A lot of the web is focused streams (blogs, etc), but I’ve always appreciated websites that focus on more timeless content. Apparently that is called Digital Gardens!

I’ve complained a lot about the state of web development. However, Astro is amazing! It does so much right and should get more credit. If you want to make a blog with features like image sets and syntax highlighting while shipping no JavaScript I’m hard pressed to think of anything better.

Hot take: it was totally reasonable for Apple to cut 32-bit macOS support when they did. They warned of this change a decade in advance! Just about everyone except game developers got the memo and moved to 64-bit many years in advance. It was always unreasonable to expect 32-bit to last forever.
