I was also worried about the negative effects of an early entry into the S&P for SpaceX , OpenAI,… on my index fund investments.
But I learned today that S&P funds may not make non-traditional exceptions for space X and not give it earlier-than-normal inclusion after all. That means mutual funds will not include spacex earlier than normal as was previously a possibility.
“To be included in the S&P 500, a company must be profitable under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in its most recent quarter as well as for the sum of its most recent four quarters, according to one of the rules S&P left unchanged.” Spacex, OpenAI are not profitable yet, so won’t be included.
