She ordered two boxes (10 rolls), of Portra 400 from Amazon, now I wouldn't do that, but it's a weird world if that's a crazy thing to do. (We'll ignore the fact that that's a good deposit on a half decent avocado for right there!)...
combine this with the destruction of any \"normal\" job market, the endemic of online gambling (which we've allowed games to drag literal children in to).
We've allowed Amazon, etsy, vinted, ebay etc to essentially be treated as \"common carriers\" for physical goods (some stolen), than side step every regulation we have, without taking *any* responsibility.
We've built a distopia, and it's hard to avoid the conclusion that it is only just getting started.

The almost literally exponential explosion in on-line fraud over the last decade has been completely ignored.
I don't think it's a stretch to think there's an arrogance in the tech community building products (I'm part of that), that dismisses these things as acceptable risks, only an issue for the gullible that need to be educated.
Technology is actively enabling fraud. It's making it increasingly hard to avoid being scammed.
Google have been promoting fraud for years.

@coldkennels @carusb Just for transport, the leatherette on a lot of hte older cameras isn't great. The case I did get in the end has extremely brittle thread holding it together. I need to either get a resown, or glue it.

Absolutely ages since I baked a loaf!
I've followed Bad Flashes on youtube for quite a while. While is presentation style is a bit grating (for a genX brit), he's had quite a lot of nice content in the past (like his manual flash videos).
About half of his recent videos though have been digital, or digital related product plugs. I think maybe he's trying to stretch outside the film bubble, which is fine and all.
It's not for me though. Not unfollowing just yet, but it's a shame that I'm leaning that way.
Three down, three to go (there are two more after that too I think). They are enjoyable, but while the writing is good in a narrative sense, it doesn't feel particularly good in the literature sense. I'm going to have to reread some Graeme Green because I definitely remember that as truly wonderful writing.

How much of a hot take would it be to say that, while Henri Cartier-Bresson is important to photographers, and maybe photography, very few of his photos are actually important? I'm rarely moved by his photos, but I get why he might be considered foundational.

I get regular clones of various GitHub repos (generally inactive) showing in my git site traffic. I'm assuming these are LLM scrapers, including copilot.
I really don't want to have to keep a server for my personal stuff, and I'd rather be able to keep my Open Source code generally open, but it's getting harder to stomach.
I was considering sticking my blog behind a fastly and self hosting. Now I'm thinking I need to do it for my code repos too.

We have a framed postcard of this on the wall of the little summer house in our garden (sounds grander than it is).
It's hard to express how well Parr captured the spirit of working class and lower middle class Brits. I've seen it suggested that Parr's work is somehow offensive or classist. Fuck that! You assume that the people in his photos weren't in on the joke. We know how silly we can be.

By about 2004 we were already at the point where you could fit all music (actually audio), commercially available from all 3 of the major record labels on one server (not a bit one, I think we were at 4 or 8 hard drives).
The live stuff users were interested in was miniscule. it wouldn't all fit in RAM, but we were getting close.
Network bandwidth is the hard part of streaming services. The rest is trivial tech.
