@adders I was gleefully horrified when I downloaded the first Stormlight Archive book to my phone and read it in place of doomscrolling – I finished the 1000-page book in a week with no extra time spent reading. Unfortunately, I don’t find all books a natural fit for the replacement, and many books I find downright unreadable on my phone as compared to paper, so it hasn’t been something I can continue all the time. But if nothing else, it reminded me of how much time I’ve wasted on the scroll.

I just had a “getting back on track with this dissertation” meeting with my advisor. I’ve been thinking a fair bit this week about how I need to work on rewriting my own narratives about the challenges of doing mental work right now from a story of hardship (as valid as it might be) to one of perserverance (and give myself credit for any progress, even the tiniest bit, in this difficult time). So much of right now is just doing everything we can with what resources we have, knowing that it might not be an optimal or even the upper 90% of ideal times for working on this but we’re still making it happen.

It is a beautiful device and the photos are better. Overall, though, definitely still just an iPhone. I am very curious what the lidar sensor will be used for once clever programmers have had time to work, especially with the long-term rumor of about Apple AR goggles/glasses.

In the realm of fun but not critical, I'd love if the homescreen icon color could be changed (such as to match the accent color, in a similar way that the Carrot Weather app lets you change the icon). The use case is that if I were able to change the icon to the orange color, it'd pop more as being M.b. at a glance.
