I get that some people like it and find it empowering. I dislike the presumption that everyone finds it as attractive as that audience and those who don’t may not have a choice much longer.
\nBack to Joel’s post, and I think he’s right on this front though he only touches on one aspect of it, standardization of the forms — or at least how they are defined — is warranted. If I have to use block editors, I would like the UI to behave similarly. When I use word processors I can pick up Pages or LibreOffice Writer and get around like I would in Word.
\nI think Joel’s post is kind of funny in that a very GUI approach to writing represented by the block editor has keyboard shortcuts for inserting block types. I was surprised to learn about that.
