\n\nI was responding to the specific arguments on the OP. Yes if you use the services then you get scale. But then you are getting something that you can’t get using on prem. Most people don’t really need that kind of scale, and if they do then AWS, while expensive, is saving a lot of man hours.
\n\nBare metal is not always what you want for every use case. Sometimes you might want a a bunch of small, cheap virtual servers instead of one big one. It just depends on your requirements. AWS also does have dedicated servers if you want higher, more consistent performance.
\n\nAWS can also be attractive in some situations simply because it’s a huge company that everyone has heard of with extremely rigorous internal security. If you have to sell a potential client on the security of your system that can sometimes be a benefit.
\n\nI’m not saying that it’s the right solution in every case. I’m just saying that if you want a certain amount of extra flexibility, but you don’t want a ton of lock in or a huge learning curve, and you are used to on prem, then sticking to ec2 might be better than diving into every single AWS service all at once.

Right now it is not functionally that different from twitter. Manton could technically ban someone from the network. I don’t know how my feed is constructed.
