When I was sent home four weeks ago it was into the care of the Mary Potter Hospice. There was no expectation I would leave their care alive. This has been my expectation for the past 14 years.
\nMy family are doing the day-to-day care and are doing a wonderful job. There’s a lot of love surrounding me at the moment.
\nI’m making the most of the situation and am seeing many people—friends and family—who want to visit. It has been very nice, although tiring.

Even as a teenager in high school in the early 1970s, when Santana and the Doobie Brothers were kings, I was more interested in jazz. So my friends and I were no use in sharing our favourites!
\nIt does mean that it’s easy to wander away from the mainstream—not in a superior way but just following what appeals. I honestly couldn’t name a Taylor Swift or Adele song to save my life.
\nBack in the day we needed to buy vinyl albums — expensive for teenagers still at school — unless our friends had a copy we could borrow and tape. It’s so much easier to get the music that appeals (and pay for it directly) over the internet. And no one else needs to know what you’re listening to, which makes it extra personal.
