This particular adaptation by Lauren Gunderson is a tricky yet masterful piece of stage writing that interweaves the details of the Louisa May Alcott’s own life and expositionary details of the character’s inner dialog lifted from the source text throughout the play to add something genuinely fresh to a production that has been done many times and in many different ways.

Last time we were down, my sister was talking about buying the duplex she currently rents at in Mid City (which, I will agree, is a nice place in a good location). We briefly entertained the idea of helping her out with that if the time comes but ultimately I think we want to be in Marigny/Bywater/St. Roch area. Especially as, over our years of staying in that area when we’re down, we’ve got our own local and such. It’s kinda already sort of feel like home to us. If that makes any sense.

Well, our idea was to find a double shotgun in the area, do whatever fix-up was needed, and let my sister live in one side and have the other side as a regular landing pad for us when we’re down (and a reason to come down more often — especially now that Beatrix will be away).
