It does trigger, but I don't get any shots. It may be triggered on IR filtering through the clouds and there aren't visible strikes. I've been somewhat afraid of risking the rest of my gear to rain damage, so even though it is waterproof I often miss some of the best shots.

\n\nLast month I took almost 50,000 photos that are currently using about 400GB of archival disk space. I do keep originals in case I ever want to recompile the timelapses (though just this week I switched to 4K compiled and think I will stick with it).
\n\nProcessing power isn't an issue with the speed of my CPU but the aging condition of our battery bank (I'm completely off-grid).

The ability to loop GIFs and replay a particular moment as many times as you wish, without any extra effort, is really useful for some content. It also helps that bandwidth and system resources have grown so there is much less burden on the user.
