@verge I've been optimistic about the prospect of a Sonos TV or streaming box but what's described here sounds like they don't understand their consumer base. We have too many ad-driven boxes with streaming app remote buttons already. Especially at the $200-400 price point and Sonos' position in the market, I would have thought a box with the specs of an Nvidia Shield and interface of an Apple TV would have made more sense - but what do I know, I'm just an existing customer.

@arstechnica The collective brain rot which has overtaken the marketing industry over the past 10-15 years really is fascinating. I'd really like to understand what has changed.

From generic brand refreshes to this type of brand destruction, it seems marketers are more interested in hitting superficial benchmarks and appealing to nobody in particular to achieve mass appeal, rather than identifying and diversifying an existing core base. The result is a bland market where nothing means anything.

I don't want to seem ungrateful for the work you have put into this but these feel like very similar mistakes to those made by Sonos with their new app. Some might be down to my preferences but others are genuine regressions in functionality. Hope you agree.
