@ross I use a dynamic mic (Audio-Technica 2100x-USB) and love the quality. But it does pickup external noise. Iā€™m on the flight path to Manchester Airport and heavy rain on my roof can be heard. I use a cheap boom arm, so I can have it close to my mouth, but keep it out of camera shot.
\nIs the background noise constant? Like air conditioning or a motor of some kind. If the source is in the room or next door, you could baffle it by placing something sound absorbing in between the source and the mic. That could be a simple as a couple of bath towels stretched over a frame in front of an Aircon unit.
\nThe microphone has both USB and XLR. I now have it going through a Vocaster Two interface, so I can really control the gain and tweak the sound to reduce rumble from the road outside, etc.
