@manton I imagine servers in Europe are being challenged by heat conditions. These might be nothing compared to much of the U.S., but the change there has been much more dramatic.

Read Andrey Kurkov, The Silver Bone, trans. Boris Dralyuk (HarperCollins, 2024). This is the first of Kurkov’s Kyiv Mysteries, and I might be hooked. It’s set in the late winter and early spring of 1919, a perilous time to be alive in Kyiv and a wacky setting for a detective novel.

@amerpie I use a Safari extension called StopTheMadness, which includes YouTube fixes. I use it mainly on my iPad, but it’s nice to have its settings synced to the Mac as well.

@amerpie Not the point of your post, but I’ve found that Roku has a simple UI (caveat: they’ve announced forthcoming changes) and makes it possible to use only its remote (for 99.999% of the time). I removed as many options as possible, and my Mom is still able to find what she is looking for. Well, mostly. Brain function changes, and sometimes app developers forget to include this generation of folks in their design decisions. BTW, what you describe at the beginning (nothing works) sounds very familiar. One thing that declines with dementia is language facility. I suppose manners might too, in some cases, though I’ve been lucky enough to experience mainly kindness.

@manton I don’t see the point of doing anything in relation to Musk and the platform he’s ruined. To hell with that. But I do think we have a right to demand of our public officials that they get on open platforms, even if they won’t wean themselves from the bad place.
