@isaacgreene You have probably read Anna Karenina. If not, I am really sorry for the following spoiler. During child birth Anna Karenina asks for Alexi Alexandrovich’s forgiveness, in a sense ‘confessing’. The thing is that she does all that knowing she will die. Well, she does not, and that introduces many complexities and complications for the ensuing plot. I have wondered for a moment what it would have been like if Rev. Mr. Dimmesdale had not died on the scaffold immediately after his confession. I feel like that too would introduce quite a bit of messiness. And that’s really the thing for most of us, that, well, after confessing, there’s life to we are to continue living afterwards…

@ayjay Prof. Jacob, I think I really love the current structure of your big blog. The navigations is much more easier than it was before, which makes it less of a struggle to move back and forth. I think I would also appreciate a page with all the tags in one place but that’s not such trouble as it is.

@elliotlovegrove Oh wow. I really didn’t expect that things would turn out as they did; that Smaug would die as he did and that there would be a war afterwards. I felt so moved several times in those last pages. I had, however, had a little of a hard time with the first bits of the book. I hope when I get to reread it I will have much more fun now. I envy you for having read it as a kid.
