If the only person you can change is yourself, then the one question that matters is: how do you actually get better? Not by winning arguments. You get better by asking others for feedback, again and again, and truly listening to it. It’s the same asking I described earlier, the one clean exception, now turned on myself: I’m the one requesting help, so the advice can finally land. And you cannot do that with an ego in the way. 0

Derek Sarno’s recipe for beans, with my mods:

1 lb pinto beans, 1 onion.\nSpices: garlic, olive oil, smoked paprika, granulated garlic/onion, bay leaves, bouillon, salt+pepper.

Soak beans overnight. Drain, rinse.\nIn casserole onion, garlic, olive oil until softened.\nAdd spices, then beans and water, bringing to slow boil, simmering 1-2hrs stirring frequently.\nSeason to taste.

When we model a complex system using theory (explanation), we must ignore some details about its nature: the parameters we pick, although good for developing our human intuition, often misses some interaction which is unexplainable or unknowable to us.\nWith a large enough dataset which is trained to produce many parameters purely in a predictive fitting way, there is no room for our biases on what the model should look like. Best we can hope for, all cases in the data are accounted for, but how we got there is now hard to explain.
