Most importantly, there was evidence that the owners of Substack invited far-right posters, even paying some of them to post. I opposed the owners’ assertion that they bore no responsibility for the content posted on Substack. This is a big issue, of course, with all platforms now. I left Facebook for the same reason. And I’m close to closing my X account for the same reason. Many writers I admire are on Substack and I read their Substacks. It’s a thorny issue.
