\nI have been thinking recently about how language is a high entropy latent space and what it means.
Latent spaces are sort of magic: they don't just reduce the dimensionality of a higher dimensional space, they also constrain it such that arbitrary movement in the latent space maps to some *meaningful* position in the higher dimensional space. Think about how almost any textual prompt you give to an image generator results in a picture with recognisable shape and form, yet the vast majority of the possible images are basically just random noise.

Since I made project-wide search fast in my text editor I've realised I've mostly stopped using the regular find/open dialogues.
The project-wide search nudges files that are close to the current file to the top of the results anyway, so I'm seeing the same files regardless: but I also get to see everything in nearby directories too, just in case I forget where the file I'm looking for is.
Originally I built project-search as a heavy-weight tool with the expectation that I'd use it only a few times per programming session but now that it can sift through millions of lines faster than I can blink I've ended up using it to query pretty much anything about the code I'm working on.

I think it's got something to do with the size of the diff, but enormous diffs by traditional auto-generated tools are not uncommon either.
If you look at the code, it's a deliberately conservative rewrite. Virtually every type, function, branch, etc. is preserved. I'd argue that it's the sort of task the author would have solved faster and easier by just serializing the output of a Zig parser into Rust: it's not especially different to the sort of output c2rust produces, for example.
Put simply: it's not a shocking display of the efficacy of LLMs, it's actually quite a constrained and well-scoped task, repeated many times. It's 500 undergrads in a trenchcoat.
And so, I'm unconvinced that it should really change anybody's minds about what these tools can do, because it's nothing we've not seen before.

The Greens regularly take absurd and self-contradictory positions on really quite fundamental things (fuel subsidies) that implies they've not really done much thinking. Also, they seem to think you can solve the housing crisis without building houses.
The LibDems are... *fine*, but on a local level they tend toward ideological incoherence and village green conservatism. They've also got a weird aversion to taking ideological positions on things for fear of rocking too many boats. In power, they are no better than Labour.
I no longer live in Wales so Plaid Cymru are not an option, although they do appeal to me. All other parties are demonstrably awful or irrelevant.
