@Nick_Craver I’d say this is more of an argument for choosing a better password manager than LastPass than a 100% ironclad argument for using an entirely separate system for OTP codes. Most people by a long shot are not going to do that.

@chipotle Re: the Apple TV, note that any tvOS Apple TV can act as a HK hub, even if it doesn’t have a Thread radio, so you might be in the clear there. I’ve a 2015, 2017, and 2021 one, and they can all hub the system.

@paolamata I’d say small or large, each have their unique corporatey things. I left Apple Retail (increasingly corporate ass) for a tech job where I WFH that I really love, but there are always things.

@ericgregorich Just like @numericcitizen, finding that it’s maybe got too many features. Kind of a jack of all trades, master of none feel. The feeds feature especially is unfinished.

Been trying the Readwise Reader beta, but honestly not impressed. I think the best solution might just be simple Safari Reading List, maybe with an app like GoodLinks for link tagging and storage.

@AndyNicolaides Agreed on the auto-junk front. I’m using iCloud’s roughly year-old ability to handle my custom domain, and have SaneBox running over top of it. Works great as a HEY replacement other than aggressive spam filter.

@hjertnes I see what you’re saying, but to be fair, Apple has offered emailed addresses since 2000 with the launch of iTools, and anyone with an address from that year is still able to use it just fine, through transitions to .Mac, MobileMe, and iCloud.

@hawaiiboy This is interesting. There’s an underlying assumption at play here: The idea that it’s simply immoral to choose to not work when you can get more money to not work. It’s critical to realize that this is an assumption, not automatically true.

Businesses don’t have an automatic right to people’s labor, and this arrangement has allowed many folks to assert that fact, rather than being forced to take whatever lower wages are on offer. That’s offending a lot of people who have the assumption “you better work otherwise you’re bad”.

\n

Let’s have a societal discussion instead about whether a business deserves to be a business if it can’t provide the wages that are being demanded for the labor it’s using.
