These funds support all sorts of programs on the island.</p>\n<p>Another friend who works at a company that helps facilitate study abroad programs just survived a round of layoffs that impacted six percent of her workforce.</p>\n<p>I am in a circle with a lot of academics. All of them are somehow attached to NSF funding and all of them worried about the money they’re owed and, if they’re in student visas, how all this might upend their life.
