@JohnPhilpin This sort of tracking was a big part of my decision to leave my last two jobs (in one I was asked to implement it, with the reassurance I was ‘trusted’ and wouldn’t be part of the monitoring).

\nLike Amit, it might be my limited use case, but I love it. I focus on the writing and it publishes everywhere and in every way I need. My one complaint is that everything is in a single library, it’s mostly OK, but there are some big projects I’d love to separate, and some things I’d like to archive in a library.

I had quite a negative experience with Day One (several data loss incidents) and moved to plain text. I feel it balances the benefits of digital with a good chance of longevity.

I’ve just spent an age tinkering with Github Actions and Pages to automate building a Hugo site. Something I imagine many people would do in moments, but there’s a real sense joy in accomplishing even something that simple.

@benwerd I know from the other side (not scamming, I stress) it’s very disconcerting. It comes as a surprise and isn’t within the usual parameters of the calls you make. So you have conflict between your instinctive human sympathy and the semi-automatic approach you take to the calls.

Given the EU have changed their proposals, and they’ve been pushing this for over ten years, they are clearly aware of this issue. It isn’t just bureaucracy for the sake of it.
\nI really do think Apple are opposing it because they can license proprietary connections and generate a good revenue stream. I think the ‘stifles innovation’ argument is hard to defend, since most of the evidence suggests that standards and interoperability tend to increase innovation. And Apple were well ahead of the EU on other aspects, like not bundling chargers, where they highlighted their green credentials (but didn’t reduce prices)!
\nI say all this as a huge Apple fan-boy, by the way.
