Developed a Python script that reads my micro.blog bookshelves via the API and creates files that populate my reading log on my website. Why not just do this on micro.blog? mb is fantastic for book tracking, but I want more control over architecture, look, and feel than I can get through theming.

@elizamreese.bsky.social This probably isnā€™t helpful, but I started just using Appleā€™s stock Photo app. The on-device OCR is decent, too. The tricky part is getting the individual images wrapped up into PDFs for multi-page documents. Iā€™ve either done that manually, or used Tropy.

@jabel Yes, agreed. I donā€™t think Iā€™ve seen anything beyond Endgame (and I hadnā€™t seen Ant-Man until this weekā€”it was fun!) And my kiddos are already familiar with the Marvel heros through some of the little kid-friendly cartoons they watched when they were younger, so seeing them in live action has been a blast for them.

Pretty exciting day: we launched a prototype automated transcription workflow that leverages Claude to read census records, return the transcribed data to our database, and lets us compare Claudeā€™s results against human transcribers. Iā€™ll write up a fuller accounting of this soon.

@scottbot.net The two ways Iā€™ve had Claude tackle this: wget the content, scrape it into markdown files, then build the theme/templates. Or, if itā€™s a site backed by an API like Omeka, it can crawl the API for content and build markdown files out of that.

@jasonheppler.org In the hands of an experienced developer these tools are phenomenal. But they require lots of prior experience and expertise. As one of those people I see Claude/Codex making bad design amd architecture decisions all the time. But I wouldnā€™t know that without my decade-plus of experience.
