Your points about the series are valid in the sense that it is incredibly, almost cartoonishly violent. However, having read all of the books so far, I will say that it takes a tone/story shift in IIRC book 6 to actually have some direction for where the story was going overall. Some characters get better fleshed out and it’s still super violent but it gets…violent for a reason? Don’t expect a grand shift but it become less like Duke Nukem later on

I'm a weather app nerd (literally have 7 apps on my phone lol) and one unique thing about Acme is that its \"tiles” on the main listing screen change depending on the conditions. So if its going to rain, you get rainfall forecast for the next 24 hours, if its hot you get the heat index, etc and its unique for where you are - if you look up a different city then you get relevant info to them. Haven't used Weather Strip but hadn't seen that feature before other than Acme weather.

Got a Kobo Clara B&W for Xmas to replace my 12 year old Kindle and love it. Slightly smaller than that paper white was but the screen is great. Read books only but the UI is light years better than Amazon’s. Only rec - get a case for it! Not for drops but the back is textured and I found it slippery to hold when reading in bed without the case (you can get a good one for $10). Kobo integrates with Overdrive/Libby which is a lot easier than jumping through Amazons hoops.

You can get an unlimited data/calling plan for $30 a month through an MVNO but typically most plans per person run $50 plus if you are on an actual carrier. Most plans also include stuff like subscriptions to Netflix, Max, Spotify, etc with your plan

We aren’t privy to DA meetings, but I am a paying member and I would hope to have a say on where they focus their funding efforts. If the community wants AI focus then so be it, but they should not just follow the general tech crowd and solicit donations for initiatives because that's what everyone else is doing. Sponsors may be external, but the DA still promotes & facilitates the sponsorship within the community and I wonder how they decide what to sponsor and emphasize.

We can influence the DA to a point, but it's still an organization that needs money and at the end of the day that will almost always win out. I recognize how devs would benefit from telemetry - the use cases make sense - but again, if it HAS to be included in DCMS then it should be off by default - and still wonder if there are other ways to get useful data for devs that don't require spying on unaware users

I disagree that we have to include AI to be relevant. AI is not inevitable and I have yet to find a use case for it, on the FED side, that is superior or faster for me without over engineering everything. OSS AI is a good goal if AI does become “required” but my bigger issue is including it in DCMS “core\" (even if never turned on) sends the wrong message to the OSS community towards working towards OSS AI
I agree, Canvas is just another example of Drupal's typical “6 different ways to do the same thing\" lol and choice IS always good because dev teams come at a task with different skills. But as a FED, the embracing of Tailwind especially seems like a mistake. Is it widely used/supported? Yes. Does it seriously mangle and drastically over complicate theming? Also yes. It's a useful tool for people who don't know CSS but it devalues FED expertise and makes their job harder

React/Tailwind - This is more about Drupal Canvas in general, I personally find it to be unintuitive and daunting for a new use. I worry about the a11y side of the interface and building, but also the general inclusion of Tailwind and the ability for editors to edit CSS directly in Drupal CMS. The entry point for Drupal FED is already tough, and this is going to make a huge mess for anyone who has even a bit of knowledge with theming
The more I learn about the plans for #Drupal CMS - AI shoved into everything, messy React/Tailwind front-end tooling and now telemetry and data collection on unsuspecting users - the more I’m convinced that the DA is just flailing.
