To @ayjay ’s point, the lack of self-awareness can be addressed individually, but it can also be addressed corporately under the common practice or goal. “Formative assessment” can occur on the way to meeting that goal: for example, when looking at a text I have students come up with 1 question and 1 comment in response. Then we sit in a circle (or break into groups, depending on your class size/atmosphere). Going around the circle one by one, students share their question and comment, and their neighbor has to either respond to the question or add their own comment. For me, as the teacher, this is my low-stakes moment to 1. push back against “this text has a spooky vibe” critiques 2. model reasonableness for the students 3. assess where the students are in their formation of our common goal, and what needs more practice.
\n
Is that close to what you have in mind?
\n","url":"https://micro.blog/hilayne/24138833","date_published":"2023-09-27T19:08:01+00:00","author":{"name":"John Layne Hilyer","url":"","avatar":"https://cdn.micro.blog/photos/96/https%3A%2F%2Favatars.micro.blog%2Favatars%2F2024%2F26%2F65978.jpg","_microblog":{"username":"hilayne"}},"_microblog":{"date_relative":"2023-09-27 19:08","date_timestamp":1695841681,"is_favorite":false,"is_bookmark":false,"is_deletable":false,"is_conversation":true,"is_linkpost":false,"is_mention":true}},{"id":"23128567","content_html":"
@ayjay Thanks for sharing this.
