Critial open source projects, like Linux, will be unable to track/respond to knonw (and likely, many more unknow) exploints in real time. A book by one of my former co-workers, a statistician, pointed out that CVEs/vuln declosers were just a known sampling of a much larger unknown pouplation and that in that world the only rational way to respond is to treat seucrutiy vulnerablities as a statistics problem.

The old ethical disclosuere model is now dead. The timelines are too tight. Resources in many open source pojects
\njust will not keep up, and I’m pretty sure commmercial projects are not going to now hire more people just to find/patch

@sacha What Claude/ChatGPT can do with language is not to be believed. I fairly reguarly converse with it in my intermediate-level Latin (language requriement in college, hobby ever since). I recently visited my son in Sweden. For a few months ahead, I had it randomly feeding the odd Latin or Swedish quote, and giving me both so I I could do comparison. I had it generate sevearal HTML based Swedish Flash Card systems for phrases and words that ran in broswer on my phone (with the Latin and English equivilants). I’ve had long conversations with it about etemology and PIE roots (dig into “neighbor”). It wrote me a poem about Pete Rose (http://curious.galthub.com/blog/2022-12-10/), translated it to Latin, and later put it in dactylic hexameter. Incredible.

@sacha I was curious about your sketch-note habit when I first saw it, but I’m begining to understand. Not much of a doodler, but there is a freedom on the page (lines to this, circle that, odd pictures) that I just don’t get online/at a keyboard.I find that in Org Mode (and now with GPTel on the back end feeding things to “The AIs” for review I get into endless edit-until-perfect cycles. Maybe my friend at Wispr FLow has a point. Maybe I should just micro.blog quickly sometimes.Another thought I may be trying out: just do the whole “post” in longhand. OCR it (Claude does well !), maybe clean up the spelling, maybe not. Post it. Long-ish form stuff without the endless edit cycle.Then of course the’re the whole questoion of “who am I thinking for anyhow”, is the thinking and end or a means….

@jtr Xah Fly Keys will take you a couple weeks/a month or so of re-training. You’re really not using “emacs” (in the RMS/Guy Steele sense) anymore. All your muscle memory is now worng. But I’ve found it (and most of the choices Xah makes) to be very sensible and usable.

@jtr I had this problem, and the beginings of carpal tunnel syndrome ~10? years ago. Two solutions: Xah Fly Keys and Knesis Advantage II keyboard. No problems since.

The keyboard is probably the easier fix. Puts control and other common keys under your thumbs
