\nIn my experience, this ideology doesn’t actually exist - at least not for any reasonable definition of “transition.” It’s mostly a figment of the right wing’s imagination, fueled by right wing propagandists.
\nI live in one of the most trans-friendly states and cities. My children attended public schools in one of the most trans-friendly districts in the country. And the idea that kids are just being nudged forward towards transition without proper assessment and guidance is absolutely not true.
\nI have a child who showed early signs of gender dysphoria. We received early encouragement to work with doctors and therapists. We were treated with empathy and understanding by medical professionals, by school administrators, and by our community. The way it should be.
\nNow, our community and schools did allow for the use of alternative pronouns and a choice of what name they go by. By some definitions that may be considered “transition.” If you have concerns about those easy accommodations to children who ask for them, then I won’t bother to argue with you about it.
\nBut our child was actively discouraged from doing anything quickly. Gender affirming surgery, hormone treatment, even puberty blockers, were all actively cautioned against during these early discussions. Our child knew that they would be supported no matter what, but that taking more consequential steps towards transitioning would require time , patience, and serious discussions with physical and mental health professionals.
\nSo while I can’t say with certainty what happens anywhere else, I can tell you that in the most progressive environments where diversity of gender expression is encouraged, things are being done the right way.
