@apoorplayer I agree with both of these articles. You know what concerns me more than AI? Palantir. Peter Thiel is and seems to have focused on getting government info sources on his software.

@apoorplayer BTW, I just listened to Chris Hayes interview the auto reporter from the Wall Street Journal on his podcast, and one of the things he said is that a barrier to US EV adoption is that we buy a lot of trucks, and EVs are not great with hauling and towing. I’m also considering whether renting a HomeDepot truck when needed would be an option rather than have a van hanging around mostly unused.

@apoorplayer That’s what I’m thinking. Actually, I’d probably keep our Kia Sedona van, because we’ve removed the back seats for transporting big stuff (wood, plants, etc) and could use it for a long drive. My stepson has a Prius, and I hear the hybrid market is stronger in the US than the EV market, but to me the hybrid seems like the worst of both worlds, even though it lowers your emissions by half. Like you, my driving is 99.9% around town, and we can charge overnight in the garage.

@apoorplayer Someone reacted to one of my recent posts, which reminded me why I shouldn’t enable comments on Substack. Lesson learned. You’re right – it is about monetizing attention. Which is why I never turned on paid subscriptions. For me, Substack is a place where I have 180 people who subscribed to read my stuff about theater. But it’s getting too close to social media for comfort. We’ll see how long I can handle it.

My wife and I went to the Clark Institute of Art in Williamstown (MA) today to celebrate our 31st anniversary. We saw the new exhibit, An Exquisite Eye, which had beautiful art from the 15th to the 18th century. Tonight, we’ll go out to dinner. Nice day being together.

Man, I am in a real slump as far as reading and writing are concerned. I did, however, finish a very enjoyable novel by Kristin Gleeson called “In Praise of the Bees,” which is set in 6th-century (I think) Europe. I really enjoyed it.
