@apoorplayer Excellent! I didn’t spend a lot of time on my post, but I wanted to put a stake in the ground for myself. Basically, I am trying to figure out a focused rule-of-thumb to help me with day-to-day decisions about what I will or won’t do within this culture, but that is broad enough to encompass everything from the arts to my auto. I don’t really want a hybrid – I’d rather have a full EV like the Leaf – but I’ve been tempted to offer to buy my stepson’s 2024 Prius that, in 18 months, he’s driven fewer than 2,000 miles because he just doesn’t go out much. He drives it so infrequently that he’s having a hard time keeping the battery from going dead.

@JohnBrady Sam Shepard wrote a fabulous script, but couldn’t come up with a way to end it. It seems to me that the point where screenwriter #2 stepped in is pretty obvious. @apoorplayer Good to know. The problem with a stacked unit is that it is vented, which poses problems for us upstairs. My main motivation is to reduce opportunities for a fall, moreso than saving electricity (although that’s a nice bonus – apparently almost 10% of a home’s electricity usage goes toward washing and drying clothes – who knew!).

@writingslowly I think Yorke is right about the power of story, and unfortunately artists are not taught the basic Spiderman lesson that “with great power comes great responsibility.” The idea that artists have a responsibility larger than their own career success has been virtually ignored within the profession and the training programs that feeds it. I think a bit more Spidey energy would be welcome.

@JohnBrady I spent my career in a small, public liberal arts university for undergraduates. Over the course of my career, I became disappointed in the gradual erosion of a real vision, both in my department and in the university as a whole.
