@bobschulties I hear you – but, it’s clear that Spotify knows it has to scale, and podcasts are their focus, at the expense of “knowing the craft of music curation”. Since there are multiple streamers (Apple, YT, Tidal) offering more or less the same core product (song libraries), it was easy for me to pull the plug on Spotify, a service I had and used on a daily basis for over 10 years.

Though earnest playlist curation was Spotify’s premise when it first these shores, I think that train left the station YEARS AGO. Look at Pandora, the pioneer in music streaming. Initially, their CEO (back in the late 2000s, some 15 years ago) called what that streamer was doing the “music genome project”, applying sounds and tones to achieve natural flow in listneing, etc, blah, etc, blah, yadda, yadda. No sure what the hell happened to that, but in order to stay relevant sometime during the mid-10s, Pandora sold their sould to SiriusXM, and its initial vision atrophied.

The good thing about Apple is … the trillion dollar company has to resources to do whatever the heck it wants to acheive a quality product (look at its live radio, its personality-driven radio service, and like you mentioned, its foray in lossless sound) without being concerned about loss leaders. Apple is about to launch a dedicated classic streaming app. I’m not the most passionate classical music fan, but I like to listen to it, and I cannot wait until this debuts. So, I wouldn’t worry about losing Spotify becuase of this controversy, because they made their $100M investment – and that’s all that matters to them. More power to ’em, free enterprise and capitalism and all that. As a Black male, I will not be a part of it. There are other very good options out there, with Apple, leading the innovation – becuase that company is able to do it.

@JohnPhilpin Very frustrating. I’ve had Spotify since it hit these shores 11 years ago. Had no problems parting ways with it, however. The CEO’s looking the other way speaks volumes. Apple Music, IMHO, is a far superior streamer.
