The hospice nurse told our family that my mom could pass within a week. There is no way to know for certain, but some of the medical signs suggest she may only have a few days. I am grateful for her and will miss her.

My brother, Matt, and sister-in-law, Katherine have come to visit. It is great to see them and am glad they can spend some time with us.

This has been a challenging week with very high caregiving needs for my mom. I had to take the week off from work to take care of her. Even with my wife and I working together, it is a challenge to provide the type of care my mom needs.

@manton I wonder if this may be similar to outsourcing goods and services and moving to an economy of disposable items. For example, TVs became cheaper with more features, but TV repair shops are gone. Full landfills are bad for the environment and fewer small businesses are bad for the economy.

I’m glad my wife, Julie, and I can spend about 90 minutes together this evening just enjoying each other while we watch TV. We don’t need to have much conversation (we are both introverts). Just being together and enjoying a peaceful moment is something for which I am very grateful.

My dad is feeling better. He would like to come home, but the doctor wants him stay a couple more days in the hospital. He will likely come home on Tuesday if he continues to recover well.

My dad was admitted to Forsyth novant hospital in Winston Salem on 9/4/2026 due to concerns of infection following surgery. We hope he will go home on Tuesday.

My dad has had complications from surgery and is being admitted to the hospital. I brought him this morning at 7:45am. We planned for outpatient. I am glad he is getting the care he needs and hope his recovery will go well.

@pimoore I tried that and it works. If reminders continues improving, I may switch. For now, I still like the Things 3 UI, but there are advantages to a native Apple app if you are in that ecosystem.

@numericcitizen I agree that Reminders is nearly as good. Although I currently use Things 3, I have been contemplating the possibility of transitioning to Apple Reminders. I haven’t yet, because things will allow you to set both a deadline and also a date to start working on a task. I also like it’s ability to create templates (I have one for a packing list) and repeating to dos. I think reminders can come close to these functions, but I don’t think it quite has them yet, and I also find Things 3 to be a well polished app that I enjoy using.

For example, a friend may be willing to sign up for a free Mastodon account if the instructions are clear and it allows them to share pictures with a friend on micro.blog, but they may be unwilling to subscribe to a new service or unwilling to spend time learning something that is complex.

@danalcantara Thanks for sharing your experience. I think being more invested in the non-virtual world is a good thing. I’m concerned about evidence that seems to show social media is harmful to children and teens (and likely adults as well). I’m also concerned about privacy issues and data breaches.
