To say “still” use it is ridiculous. It has the network effect, you stay there because the people you want to interact with are there.
\nManton isn’t a political leader, I know his politics because from time to time very infrequently, he shares them, but micro.blog is not a service that’s exclusive to any political view. I think the only criteria he should use is this – do my customers want it?
\nPersonally I had stopped using Twitter but kept my account, but lately I’m promoting a new way to do social networks, and Twitter is very useful for talking to smart people who like Twitter. :-)
\nIf Manton offered the service, I would use it.

The things they care about are more superficial. Another example, Musk had to misbehave a lot before I started hating my Tesla. \nI have a Twitter account which is useful for keeping track of the WordPress community – it seems they use everything other than WordPress to share info. I’m trying to encourage them to use RSS by starting wp.feedland.org/. There is some hope.
\nEach resignation has a cost, and it’s really hard to see any return for making the investment. In the case of GitHub I can’t imagine whata would be better. Yes I know it’s owned by Microsoft, but if you all switch to something else, how long before that is owned by Oracle or Salesforce, or something Elon Musk owns. It’s very hard for the startup people to resist the offer when it comes.
\nImnsho – it would be better if people could working together on building interop on the web, so peopld could build nice useful systems that are more powerful than anything the BigCentralizedCos could make on their own. That’s how we really win, not with symbolic moves, but by doing things that really matter.
