I think Robin’s distinction is based on how all the platforms suddenly shifted from saying “influencer” to “creator.” And “the creator economy” usually seems to apply to people building some form of revenue stream on said platforms.
\nThe standard big tech rename to make something seem new and exciting.
\nThe language shift also feels significant related to how it positions power in the relationship.
\nAn influencer has the power because the value is created via their influence, which is platform agnostic.
\n“Creator” feels like it gives more credit to the tools of creation, shifting power back to the platforms.
\nAt the end of the day, to your point, the real distinction is between people that create income on the internet via tools they control vs building on someone else’s tools and being at the mercy of an external algorithm or distribution mechanism.
