@jack I ended up switching back to Lightroom after months of soul searching simply because their iPad app is second to none. Same experience as the desktop version in a much more convenient and intimate form factor. I didn’t want to be so tied to Adobe, but darn if they don’t make great photography tools

@jshulko I was pointed to Tofugu’s free Japanese course by another Micro.blog user and it has been absolutely life changing. Tofugu teaches the basic hiragana and katakana alphabets as well as introductory grammar and culture while their other product, WaniKani, is a subscription-based service for ongoing study that helps you learn kanji up to JLPT-N2. Both are extremely entertaining, simple, fluid, and effective.

Yesterday was the first day of early voting in North Carolina and I learned the true value of getting in early. I managed to register and cast my vote downtown, all in under 30 minutes. No line, no waiting whatsoever. I’m happy to have voting taken care of!

@simonwoods I, an Apple fanatic since I was 11, am slowly spending the latter half of this year switch one app at a time over to an open source alternative with the intention to leave Apple’s platform entirely at the end of the year. @simonwoods I set up filters for all of my newsletters and un-unsubscribe-able junk in Fastmail and have had a wonderful time with my email ever since. Now the only things that come to my inbox are timely and important and all newsletters are delivered Saturday morning for me to enjoy over the weekend. It’s such a breakthrough moment the first time you can trust that the little “1” on your mail icon is something worth your time.

@jack I’m definitely keeping my SE around just in case. For now I’ve deleted every app off the SE that Apple will let me delete just to get into the habit of reaching for something other than my phone. So far so good. Will continue to update.

@maique I agree! 💸 Ultimately what sold me was the future lineup and product philosophy they feature on their site. Mudita seems like a burgeoning company that actually understands what it means to build intentional tech products. My purchase of the Pure is half a new phone and half a tiny investment in a promising new startup.

This morning I decided to opt out of smartphones by ordering a Mudita Pure. I’ll keep my iPhone SE in a drawer for use during international travel and/or in case I wind up hating not having a smartphone. But I’m excited for the change.

@LJPUK Some time ago I decided to see how difficult is would be to transition to a platform agnostic workflow. The only thing I couldn’t part with is iCloud, especially for photos. I don’t use any Google products so Google Photos wasn’t an option (not that it’s a one-for-one replacement anyway). iCloud might be the thing keeping me glued to Apple for a while.

For now I share @jack’s philosophy with the exception of my contacts/calendars which I prefer to host on Fastmail.

RAW Power is an impressive app — especially on iPad — but it’s pricey, clunky, and glitchy. It integrates with Photos fine but is missing a ton of really basic functionality. For RAW processing, it’s great. But I have to finish the job in Pixelmator or Affinity Photo every time.

Update on my search for the best editing tool to use with Photos: By far, Pixelmator Photo on iPad and Pixelmator Pro on Mac. Such a magnificently streamlined, capable piece of software that integrates with Photos seamlessly on both platforms.
