I am thinking of the people of Kaua’i, who welcomed us onto their island and gave us unforgettable experiences. Now, I’ve gone home and they are still there. Power is out. Comms are limited. It’s hot and muggy and there’s no escape. Basic amenities like refrigeration don’t exist. Don’t forget them.

Kissed Maui a quick hello and goodbye on our way back home from Kaua’i. Glad they have free Wi-Fi and a USB charging port on this airplane. I was still running off the last bit of power I saved up from before the hurricane!

It’s about 3:30am and my CPAP battery has finally run out of power. The entire island of Kaua’i remains in a near total blackout. It’s hot and humid. Comms are spotty, and my flight is still 7 hours away. Aside from the hurricane, it’s been a great trip, but I’m more than ready to come home now.

We’re on the 3rd floor of our resort on the east side of Kaua’i facing away from the hurricane, so hopefully it will be fine today! You can see some flash flooding in this video I recorded about an hour ago. I’ve got a ham radio and a shortwave with me in case comms go out, and we have provisions.

Hurricane Lowell’s path did shift closer to us on Kaua’i overnight. My understanding that it is a Category 3 storm as of right now. Fortunately we are on the far side of the island not facing the storm. It is currently very rainy and windy here and we expect today to be a day to hunker down inside.
