: thebraindumpblog.comOK, an email from the Jacobin magazine has me convinced:
\n\n\nCapitalism is one long horror story. Karl Marx repeatedly conceived of capital itself in gothic metaphors and the rule of the dead over the living: “Capital,” Marx says, “is dead labor, that, vampire-like, only lives by sucking living labor,” a system whose “werewolf hunger for surplus-labor” oversteps all moral and physical bounds.
\n
I regret not making a “capitalism” costume for Halloween.

\nSo a friend was extolling the virtues of a genre of books I was not over-familiar with - “weird girl fiction”. Apparently there’s quite a community of fans of it on Reddit. So what better way to gain an insight into their mind than reading one of their top recommendations?
\nThe clue to the genre is of course in its name. And this book is indeed about a rather strange young woman who has a voracious, unusual and explicit appetite for aeroplanes. Her life-long obsession is to marry one, although her definition of that is rather macabre (and expensive). Of course...

@SimonWoods agreed! I never use the Wordpress dashboard reader so had forgotten it even exists but that’s annoying.

Yes, I think tracking is one of the few techniques that the research suggests is quite effective in most circumstances regarding weight loss. The main problem is that it’s effortful so most people aren’t able to keep it up for a long time, so good on you for persisting!
\nI’m glad folk are trying to work out ways to make it less of an ordeal. But as you say I guess intentionality is likely a part of it so making it too automatic might be unhelpful in the end. Perhaps that’s why the researchers in this paper noted that tracking by taking photos might be less effective. But otoh it’s good to know that it’s certainly not critical to be a ‘perfect tracker’.
