The idea is that combining binarual beats with similar patterns from blinking stropes entrains one’s brainwaves to certain levels.</p>\n<p>The device we had allowed you choose from a range of patterns involving stimulation or relaxation. I chose relaxation. As the timed program started could hear my classmates all talking around me. Eventually as the program continued it began to feel like their voices were receding into a cave. I wasn’t falling asleep though. Finally I could hardly hear them as my body and mind sunk into relaxation.</p>\n<p>One of the other students chose the Stimulation program, and reported visual effects like was “flying through nebulas like on Star Trek.”</p>\n<p>Later that year I used them again as a test subject for a PhD student, who was studying the effect of relaxation on problem identification/question formation (library science stuff).</p>\n<p>It was an interesting experience.
