@manton I think for a lot of people it’s just going to come down to what your corporate IT provides at work. I find they’re all fungible enough with few maintainable leads so far, so I just use Codex as that’s what gets paid for. But I’d probably be fine with using Claude or Gemini.

Covid has become as unremarkable to most as any other common infection. Over the holiday season, the diseases everyone was talking about in my two home countries—Greece and the United States—were norovirus and the flu.

@manton Moonshot Elon is the best Elon. And considering SpaceX is singlehandedly the only reason China hasn’t overtaken the US in launches (thank the stars for that), I’m happy to let him cool down on politics and try to shoot the moon so to speak.

@manton It makes me sad that none of the OpenAI GUI apps support Intel Macs. I know the writing is on the wall and I cling to this OCLP-iMac to my own detriment… but for a service that is entirely network driven it kind of stinks.

@manton I disagree with just about everything ICE is doing right now and it would warm my heart to see it first on the budgetary chopping block, but at the end of the day it is a US government agency.

@manton There’s no better time to be born than today, except for tomorrow and the day after that. We’ve only gotten more free and rich across the board, at least as Americans.

Energy is finally becoming more cheap and abundant, and we are on the cusp of many biomedical revolutions including I believe the first decline in obesity in decades.

\n

Our foreign and domestic policy could use some work, but let’s not lose sight of the big picture here. Especially as we watch people in places like Iran fighting with their lives for what we in the west take for granted ✌️

@manton Great post. There is so much pre-mature kvetching over things like people daring to use AI for health at all (and I’m sure there will inevitably be a media wildfire when the first bad advice inevitably hits…), but you only need to look at things like image analysis where AI is spotting tumors no human could to understand its both got a long way to go yet will bring humanity so much improvement over the status quo.

SpaceX turned more commodity parts into the most dominant and reliable launch company around, so I’m hesitant to bet against it working or still not a step function improvement over humans.
