I use Deskflow (in the line of synergy/input leap/barrier/etc.) to use one set of inputs across a couple local devices, including sometimes ones that are also in use with their own devices. What would be amazing is if those could fire up a new seat on the remote devices instead of hijacking the existing local inputs.

I daily Wayland on all my machines (and appreciate it). However it does still have some regressions over previous technologies.
I'm too young to have used mainframes with thin terminals, but old enough I have setup multi-seat X over 2 decades ago. I ran a whole internet cafe using 3 boxes to run 18 seats. It was considerably more cost effective to use fewer bigger boxes than many cheaper boxes and people got a faster browser experience.
