Should a Stargate show be an MGM+ production? I’d say yes. MGM+ is a cable broadcaster with a streaming service attached. Spider-Noir is an MGM+ show, it had several viewing marathons two days before it hit streaming. And they could sell international streaming rights to the highest bidder.

I understand why Stargate fans are yelling at Amazon, but Stargate Universe’s final ratings probably ended up in a six page document and someone in an Amazon doc read underlined them in red pen. MGM going bankrupt in 2010 during the second season of SGU didn’t get it cancelled, it kept it cancelled.

@manton Opus and AV1. Those may be a bit too grinding on your compute resources but it’s what YouTube and streamers are delivering to mobile these days. But I get you have costs to maintain so whatever works.

@manton Suggestion, on the docs I see 128kbps MP3 audio seems to be the extracted audio format for podcasts. If this was 128kbps Opus it would give better audio fidelity in comparison.

Anecdotally, I’m seeing DeepSeek and Moonshot pop up a lot more in EU based software development. I wouldn’t underestimate how annoyed some people got after the cack handed attempt to prevent “foreigners” from accessing Fable.

The short listed designs for the new Euro bank notes are some of the most soulless things I’ve seen in a while. Each nation should get one side of the note for a design they choose, that would be more interesting and people would want to see all the other notes.

I’ve seen all the Evil Dead movies and the modern ones suffer from the same problem. The protagonists are dull. Evil Dead Burn, abused wife trapped with abusive in-laws. That’s terrible, and miserable to watch. Where’s the spit and vinegar?

Ireland & U.K. were some of the last countries to get HBO Max. You subscribe and find HBO shows like Westworld aren’t on it. But I can “buy” it from Prime Video. Legal streaming is just three-card monte. The show you want could be there, on a different service or only available for purchase.

While I enjoy watching The Vampire Lestat it does miss having a human POV character. The vampires are intense with each other all the time. Having not read the books I don’t know if they are capable of human friendship, but they could do with not having 300 years of baggage with everyone.

I’m still paying for a Microsoft Office home subscription and I wonder why. Habit? I’ve stopped using Outlook and probably open Word on my home machine twice a year. If I opened it now, the Copilot crapware would be waiting for me.

Years ago I had a meeting at the HQ of one of the main Irish banks. The day before was the goodbye party for the IT team who were shifted to an outsourcing provider. The bank was going to boost profitability by reducing tech spend. Today 80% of Irish adults use Revolut. That party was a domino.

The Valve Steam Machine is overpriced, and the price will go up. Valve are buying components on the spot market, even Xbox is getting screwed on costs there. There’s ~$660B of planned spending on AI data centres over the next 12 months. How do consumer companies compete for chips against that?
